Exploring Themes and Ideas:

When reading a text for the first time initial impressions are important. As you read consider some of the following:

  • Does there seem to be a message in the story?
  • Is the author directing our attention to a major idea or event?
  • Are common themes such as love, loss, death, personal growth, relationships, family, good, evil etc featured and emphasised?
  • What happens during the 'crisis' moments?
  • Are particular images and ideas repeated?
  • What is the conflict or problem?
  • Do we identify with or dislike any of the characters? Why?
Use these questions and your own ideas to add at least two quotes you consider important or significant and add them, in full, to the table below: (Quotes should not be too long)
